Greg Carpenter
Greg Carpenter is the fourth individual to hold the title of General Director in the 29 year history of Opera Colorado. He has served as General Director since 2007 and guides both the artistic and administrative operations of the company. Mr. Carpenter previously served as Opera Colorado’s Director of Development from 2004 – 2007, managing the fundraising operations and the Board of Directors activities.
Prior to joining Opera Colorado, he worked for four years for the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, first as a special projects manager for the President of the National Symphony Orchestra (2000 – 2001) and second as the Manager of Development (2001-2004).
Mr. Carpenter’s previous work experience also includes two years as the Arts and Event Services Manager for the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland and as a special projects coordinator for the University of Maryland School of Music. Greg Carpenter was a professional opera singer from 1986 – 1998 singing leading and supporting roles at Glimmerglass Opera, Central City Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia, Cleveland Opera and Lyric Opera Cleveland.
Mr. Carpenter currently serves on the Board of Directors of OPERA America, the national service organization to the field. He served as Chairman of the Fundraising Committee for the 2008 National Performing Arts Convention held in Denver and in 2009 was awarded a Livingston Fellowship in Leadership from the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation.
He received a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from Wittenberg University; a Master of Music in vocal performance from Michigan State University and completed Post-Graduate Studies at the University of Maryland School of Music.
