Thank you for your interest in Opera Colorado’s Education and Community Programs. The procedure for Educators' Night has changed. Please read the following information carefully.
Teachers are important to us! To support the wonderful work that you do, Opera Colorado developed Educators' Night. This program is intended to provide an opportunity for teachers to prepare themselves to incorporate opera into their curriculum. Eligible teachers are able to request 2 tickets to see each of the seasons’ dress rehearsal performances at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Over the years, this event has become an integral part of Opera Colorado’s Education and Community Programs and one that we hope to continue.
The past several years have seen an increasing misuse of the program. It has been necessary to change the way tickets are requested and given out in an effort to address these problems.
We have also seen a tremendous increase in demand for tickets to our Student Dress Rehearsal events. At Opera Colorado, providing every student with an opportunity to see a live opera performance is one of our main goals. We have increased the number of tickets that are available to students for these events to meet this increase in demand.
For these reasons, we have made the following changes to the requirements.
Tickets for Educators' Night will be given to teachers based on the following Tier system.
Tier I: Teachers who have booked a program with Opera Colorado and will be incorporating opera into their curriculum and/or preparing students for an opera education program.
*Please be advised that if the demand for tickets in Tier I is high, we may not be able to fulfill all requests.
Tier II: Teachers who have never attended an EDUCATORS’ NIGHT event and would like the opportunity to learn more about the program and how to incorporate opera into their curriculum.
*Please be advised that if there is a high demand for tickets by teachers in Tier I, we may not have an opportunity to offer tickets to teacher in Tier II.
Tier III: Any teacher who is currently employed in Colorado and who does not fall into either Tier I or Tier II. Requests accepted on a first-come first-served basis.
*Please be advised that if there is a high demand for tickets by teachers in Tier I and Tier II, we may not have an opportunity to offer tickets to teacher in Tier III.
Each eligible teacher is given 2 tickets to each opera. Tickets can only be requested by completing and submitting the online registration form and will only be sent two to a person. Teachers cannot request or receive tickets for themselves and other teachers at their school. There is no waiting list. Once the total number of tickets for this event have been distributed, the program will be listed as “sold out.”
Jefferson County teachers are not eligible for the Educators' Night program. Opera Colorado will be partnering with The Metropolitan Opera and offering Jefferson County teachers the opportunity to participate in a new program this year. The Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD program, which simulcasts performances of the Met operas to movie theaters around the world, will be partnering with Opera Colorado and Jefferson County schools. Teachers participating in this new program will receive tickets to the Live HD movies and selected Opera Colorado Education and Community programs. If you are a Jefferson County teacher and would like to be involved in this program, please speak with your administration or call our Education Department at 303-778-0371.
Opera Colorado is aware that teachers who have participated in Educators' Night at the Opera for many years may no longer be able to receive tickets. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope that you understand why program requirements and ticket request procedures have been changed.
Opera Colorado offers special discounted ticket rates for groups of 10 or more. Teachers can form a group of their own and enjoy a night at the opera! If you are interested in learning more about group rates, please contact our Group Sales Department at 303-468-2024.
Opera Colorado’s mission of audience development is important to us and we appreciate your help in supporting and achieving this goal. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact the Education Department at education@operacolorado.org.
